READ CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING. THIS IS A RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT.
I, the undersigned ("Participant"), or parent/legal guardian if Participant is a minor, acknowledge that equestrian activities — including riding, handling, grooming, feeding, or being in proximity to horses — carry inherent risks of serious injury or death. These risks include but are not limited to: being kicked, bitten, struck, or thrown; falls; collision with objects; and equipment failure. I understand that horses are unpredictable and no facility can guarantee safety.
I voluntarily assume all risks of injury, illness, death, or property damage arising from my participation in any activity at Woodbine Equestrian Center, whether or not caused by the negligence of Woodbine Equestrian Center, its owners, agents, or other participants.
In consideration of being permitted to use the Woodbine Equestrian Center facility, I hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Woodbine Equestrian Center, its owners, property managers, agents, and assigns ("Released Parties") from all liability, claims, losses, or damages arising from my participation, including those caused by Released Parties' negligence.
I understand that Woodbine Equestrian Center is a self-care facility. The facility owners and staff do not supervise, manage, or bear any responsibility for the care of any horse on the property. All responsibility for horse care, health, and safety rests solely with the horse's owner or their designated caretaker.
In the event of an emergency in which I am incapacitated, I authorize Woodbine Equestrian Center to consent to emergency medical treatment on my behalf. This does not obligate the facility to provide or pay for such treatment.
Pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 99E-1 et seq., an equine activity sponsor or equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in an equine activity resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities.
I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any claim, loss, or liability they may incur due to my presence on the property or participation in equestrian activities, including any injury caused by my horse to another person or animal.
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. Disputes shall be resolved in Wake County, NC.
By signing, I confirm I have read this entire document, understand it fully, and agree to its terms. I understand I am waiving significant legal rights.
If participant is a minor (under 18):
Print, sign, and email completed waivers to woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com before your first ride or visit. Waivers must be on file prior to any mounted activity.
This Self-Care Boarding Agreement is between Woodbine Equestrian Center ("Facility") and the horse owner identified below ("Owner"). It governs the boarding of Owner's horse(s) at the Facility on a strictly self-care basis.
Owner expressly acknowledges this is a self-care boarding arrangement. Owner is solely and exclusively responsible for all aspects of their horse's daily care, including:
The Facility, its owners, and staff are not responsible for the care, health, safety, or well-being of Owner's horse(s) at any time. The Facility will not perform any care tasks on behalf of Owner.
Monthly board is due on the 1st of each month. A $25 late fee applies after the 5th. Board is non-refundable once the month has begun. Acceptable payment: check, cash, or approved electronic transfer.
Owner and Owner's guests may use riding areas, trails, and common areas during posted hours. All use is subject to Woodbine's Barn Rules. Specific riding times are not reserved unless separately arranged in writing. Storage of tack and equipment is permitted in designated areas only, as assigned by management, and is subject to available space.
All horses must be current on: Rabies, EEE/WEE, West Nile, Tetanus, and Influenza/Rhinopneumonitis vaccines, plus an annual negative Coggins test. Documentation must be provided before or upon arrival. Non-compliant horses may be quarantined or required to leave.
The Facility shall not be liable for injury, illness, death, theft, or property damage to Owner's horse(s) or belongings except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct by the Facility. Owner is strongly encouraged to carry equine mortality and liability insurance. Owner agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Facility from any claims arising from Owner's horse(s) injuring another person, horse, or property.
Either party may terminate with 30 days written notice. The Facility may terminate immediately for unpaid board (30+ days), repeated rule violations, or a horse posing an imminent safety risk. Owner must remove horse(s) within the notice period.
Woodbine Equestrian Center is a privately owned property. The owners reserve the right to host private family events on the grounds on an occasional basis. Owner acknowledges and agrees that on designated private event days:
Owner agrees that this occasional restriction does not constitute a breach of this Agreement and no pro-rated board credit will be issued for private event days.
The Facility shall have a statutory lien on Owner's horse(s) for all unpaid fees per applicable North Carolina law.
By signing, Owner acknowledges this is a strictly self-care arrangement and agrees to all terms of this Agreement.
Email signed boarding agreements to woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com before your move-in date. We'll countersign and return a copy for your records.
This Agreement governs use of Woodbine Equestrian Center ("Facility") by outside riding instructors, trainers, and clinicians ("Trainer") for lessons, training sessions, workshops, or clinics. Woodbine does not employ in-house instructors and does not provide instruction services of any kind.
Trainer must receive written approval from Woodbine management before conducting any sessions at the Facility. Approval may be revoked at any time at the Facility's sole discretion.
Trainer must maintain, at their own expense, a current general liability insurance policy with a minimum of $1,000,000 per occurrence. Proof of insurance must be provided before the first session and kept current. Woodbine Equestrian Center must be listed as an additional insured.
Trainer is responsible for ensuring that every student or participant has a completed, signed Woodbine Facility Liability Waiver emailed to woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com before any mounted activity. Trainer shall not permit any participant to ride without a waiver confirmed on file.
Trainer agrees to pay the applicable facility use fee per the current Woodbine fee schedule, due at the time of each session. Current rates: $20 per student per individual session; $15 per student for groups of 3 or more. Clinic rates available upon request. Fees subject to change with 14 days' notice.
Trainer is an independent contractor, not an employee or agent of Woodbine Equestrian Center. Woodbine has no responsibility for Trainer's instruction methods or the conduct of their students.
Trainer releases Woodbine from any claim arising from Trainer's use of the Facility and agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Woodbine from any claim, injury, or liability arising from Trainer's sessions or conduct on the property.
Either party may terminate with 14 days written notice. Woodbine may terminate immediately for safety violations, lapsed insurance, or unpaid fees.
By signing, Trainer agrees to all terms of this Agreement and confirms they hold current liability insurance as required above.
Email signed trainer agreements and proof of insurance to woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com. We'll review and confirm your approval within 2–3 business days.
Trail riding at Woodbine takes place on natural terrain on and adjacent to the Woodbine property, including wooded paths, open fields, and varied ground conditions. This is a self-guided activity; Woodbine staff do not guide or supervise trail rides unless separately arranged.
In addition to general equestrian risks, trail riding presents hazards including: uneven terrain, natural obstacles, wildlife, low branches, water crossings, and the increased unpredictability of horses in open outdoor environments. I knowingly accept all such risks.
I understand Woodbine is a self-care facility. I am solely responsible for the behavior and safe handling of my horse on the trails. Woodbine staff are not supervising or guiding trail use.
I release, waive, and hold harmless Woodbine Equestrian Center, its owners, agents, and assigns from any and all claims for injury, death, or property damage arising from my participation in trail riding on the Woodbine property, including claims based on negligence. This release binds my heirs, estate, and legal representatives.
By signing, I confirm I have read and agree to this Trail Ride Release in full.
If participant is a minor:
Email completed trail ride releases to woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com before your scheduled ride.
Violations may result in a warning, suspension of access privileges, or termination of your boarding or trainer agreement at management's sole discretion. Serious or repeated violations may result in immediate removal from the property without refund.
I acknowledge receipt of and agreement to Woodbine Equestrian Center's Barn Rules & Facility Policies.
Email your signed barn rules acknowledgment to woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com along with your boarding or trainer agreement.
Woodbine Equestrian Center is a privately owned property, and the owners occasionally host family gatherings and private events on the grounds. We are committed to being good neighbors to our boarders while maintaining the right to use our own property for personal occasions.
When a private family event is scheduled, boarders will receive reasonable advance notice. On event days, we ask that boarders limit their visits to essential horse care only — feeding, medications, and water checks — so that our family can enjoy the property privately.
We keep these events infrequent and always give notice ahead of time. We appreciate our boarders' understanding and respect for our home.
"Woodbine is both a working equestrian facility and our family's home. We're grateful to our boarders for respecting that balance."
— The Woodbine Family
Essential care permitted — feeding, medications, and water checks are always allowed
No riding or training — riding areas and trails are not available to boarders
No outside trainers or lessons — all scheduled sessions must be rescheduled
No boarder guests — only the boarder themselves for care visits
Advance notice provided — we will notify boarders with as much notice as possible before any event day
Event day policies are part of all Woodbine Boarding Agreements. Questions? Reach out to us at woodbinefarmsnc@gmail.com.
